Predictor: Washington Irving

Howard Gorman

We’d like to introduce you to Glaswegian band Washington Irving, the latest signing to the Led Astray stable (who have already signed greats such as To Kill a King and ON AND ON).

This five-piece have created their own brew of stalwart Folk Rock, and it’s clear that they are suckers for the likes of Nick Cave, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Arcade Fire – need I say more to perk up your ears?

2012 was a hectic year seeing them touring, recording, and taking to the stage at festivals such as Hop Farm. Things don’t look to be slowing down for the band as 2013 creeps up, as they are set to head out on a full tour of the UK with Frightened Rabbit in February, as well as headlining Glasgow’s Oran Mor on January 19th as part of Celtic Connections.

The debut album is receiving it’s finishing touches treatment but in the meantime we have a couple of live recordings for you. The first, featured above, is a  brilliant performance of ‘Wandering Wits’ recorded live at a stunningly lit and sweaty 13th Note. The second is a gorgeous rendition of the track ‘Holy Company’ recorded live at Glasgow University earlier this year:
