The Comedian's Comedian Podcast With Stuart Goldsmith. Episode 32: Carl Donnelly
This is a bi-weekly audio show featuring interviews with top comedy headliners with a design towards discovering exactly how they come up with the funny stuff.
Stuart isn’t just asking where comedians get their ideas from but instead traces the route of material as it meanders its way from a thought to the page to the stage. These podcasts are literally for all fans of comedy, anyone who makes and/or writes comedy or anyone with a keen interest in comedians and what it is that makes them so annoying.
Today’s show features suede-hooved waffler Carl Donnelly who makes the art of comic narrative look like a walk in the park. You may well have spotted him on TV on the likes of ‘Mock The Week’ and ‘Russell Howard’s Good News’ or, his words not ours, “maybe not”. His turn of phrase and laid back approach has heavily influenced a movement of new acts, but it’s Carl’s keen eye for unique and genuinely laugh out loud situations that widens the gap between himself and his peers.
Here he emphasises the important role truth plays in his work whilst also discussing theta-waves. You know – just a typical run of the mill conversation topic…
As we said, Stuart’s podcasts are up for the Chortle Internet Award with the winner’s announced on March 25 at a ceremony in central London, hosted by none other than the lovely Jo Brand. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for him
