The Wolverine - Exclusive New Images

Howard Gorman

The Wolverine, directed by James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma, Knight and Day) and starring Hugh Jackman, in his sixth portayal as Logan, will be unleashed on cinemas worldwide this July.

This time round The Wolverine, based on the celebrated comic book arc, will find Jackman’s character, Logan, in modern-day Japan. His adamantium claws will strike samurai steel as he comes up against a a tenebrous figure from his past in battle of epic proportions that will leave him scarred forever.

Mangold has commented that the film is strongly influenced by Japanese samurai films such as 13 Assassins and also Westerns such as The Outlaw Josey Wales. He went on to say that the film was originally intended to be a prequel to X-Men Origins  – Wolverine but he changed his mind as he wanted to be able to relate a story “without the burden of handing it off to a film that already exists and having to conform to it. The ideas of immortality reign very heavily in this story, and the burden of immortality weighs heavily on Logan. For me that’s such an interesting part of Logan’s character that it is nearly impossible to explore in a prequel.”

20th Century Fox have just released a set of stills from the film to keep us all yearning for more which you can see below.
